The Twits 'Celebrating Roald Dahl Day'

Stop Motion Promo

Director: Drew Roper

Produced by: Yamination Studios

Content Type: Stop motion promo, social campaign asset

Objective:

  • Celebrate Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday with a playful, character-led animation

  • Engage fans across social media with a short, shareable promo

  • Honour Dahl’s legacy through handcrafted animation and visual storytelling

  • Blend traditional stop motion with digital motion graphics

What We Did:

To celebrate the 100th birthday of legendary author Roald Dahl, we brought two of his most delightfully disgusting characters, Mr. and Mrs. Twit, to life in a short, stop motion skit. Produced by Yamination Studios and directed by Drew Roper, the promo captures the spirit of Dahl’s world with tactile charm and a gruesome wink.

In this playful animated moment, Mr. Twit blows a birthday horn in his own grotesque style, just before a gooey motion graphic splat hits the screen, revealing the message: ‘Celebrating Roald Dahl Day’ alongside social hashtags. Designed for digital marketing and social media, the piece blends handcrafted puppetry with motion graphics to honour Dahl’s legacy in a way that’s both nostalgic and joyfully twisted.

Production Approach:

  • Stop motion animation featuring custom-built Mr. and Mrs. Twit puppets

  • Designed and fabricated at Yamination Studios

  • Animated skit timed to a comedic beat, ending with a motion graphic splat

  • Integrated social hashtags and campaign messaging for digital use

Deliverables:

  • Short-form animated promo for social media and digital campaigns

  • Still frames and GIFs for use across platforms

  • Motion graphic overlays for campaign branding

Outcome:

  • Delivered a fun, shareable piece that captured the spirit of Roald Dahl’s world

  • Engaged fans across social platforms during the 100th birthday celebration

  • Showcased the power of stop motion in short-form digital storytelling

  • Strengthened the visual identity of the Roald Dahl Day campaign with handcrafted charm

Gruesome. Grotesque. Gloriously Dahl.
